World-wide, it is estimated that about a third of food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted—some 1.3 billion tonnes each year.
What started out as a small members bill led to the New Zealand government creating a $32 million fund to support nationwide food distribution initiatives, rescuing food waste and feeding our most needy.
Bay of Plenty's Labour MP, Angie Warren Clark work in the redistribution of food waste began when she was head of the region’s Women’s Refuge working alongside food rescue organisations.
