Ag teacher recognised in lights with Primary Sector Award I Rex Newman

With passion and dedication for growing the next generation of farmers, growers and agri-professionals, Rex Newman has it in spades.

His incredible contribution was acknowledged with being awarded the Unison Hawke’s Bay Primary Sector Professional of the Year in April 2021.

As our Change Maker this week, Napier Boys High School’s Head of Agriculture Rex Newman explains to Sarah:

  • How humbled he was to be recognised by the industry for something he loves doing naturally.

  • Rex talks about his great run of success with his students in the FMG Junior Young Farmer of the Year and how the competition annually helps support students' keenness on the primary sector.

  • If people in the industry have something to offer a local high school, it is much appreciated to support Ag & Hort teachers further educate & inspire students into a career in the primary sector.

“It’s things like bus trips, field trips and even practical skills workshops for the kids like shearing, fencing, using a chainsaw that teachers themselves don’t know how to show would be appreciated if you can support your local school,” explains Rex.
